AKEL will never stop resisting fascist voices

11th November 2015

elam The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL commented on “MEGA” Channel journalist Pavlos Mylona’s reference during a programme with a guest representative from ELAM (Note: the ultra-right nationalist National Popular Front) that “it is a joke to label some people Nazis by force to suit others”.

“We cannot remain silent in the face of such phenomena. Whenever entire countries tolerated such phenomena we know very well what this led to, not only in their own countries, but also humanity as a whole, mourning on ruins”, he pointed out.

He clarified that AKEL will never stop resisting fascist voices that are trying to provoke problems and lead us into dangerous adventures.

The GS of AKEL recalled the denunciation he himself made to the Attorney General about the military training ELAM members were receiving, adding that ELAM has close ties with the “Golden Dawn” party in Greece. “When ELAM first submitted its application to be registered as a political party, the name put forth was Golden Dawn of Cyprus. It wasn’t ELAM. When this wasn’t accepted ELAM returned with its new name,” Andros Kyprianou said.

The General Secretary of AKEL added that the ELAM has close links with the neo-Nazi party of Germany and was represented at the Congress of the German neo-Nazis, whilst it also hosted their members in Cyprus. Furthermore, he continued, ELAM is an organization which every July rings the praises of EOKA B and Nikolaos Dertilis.

“If therefore Mr. Mylonas considers all this as insignificant and considers that they form a democratic political face for ELAM it is his right. However, I believe that he cannot use the frequencies, which are a national asset, to promote such propaganda”, he said.
