AKEL on yet another confirmation that the President is discussing confederation and a two states solution

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 30 October 2018, Nicosia

Yet another confirmation that the President of the Republic Mr. Anastasiades is discussing confederation and a two states solution. This time the relevant revelation was made by the Deputy Chairman of the “Citizens’ Alliance” party Panayiotis Savvides.

As Mr. Savvides explained, this is what the President of the Republic told the “Citizens’ Alliance” between the first and second round of the presidential election.

It is now an irrepressible fact that the whole discussion about a two states solution and confederation, if it hasn’t began, at least it is being fueled and reinforced by what the President of the Republic is saying to third parties. Secondly, it is now clear who is actually using the Cyprus problem for petty-political and petty-party considerations and purposes. It is the President of the Republic.

Below we cite the text of Mr. Savvides’ statements to today’s midday RIK program.

“… the President has had discussions for quite some time on the sidelines about a solution which isn’t the solution that the various governments have been negotiating for the past forty-four years, but something different that includes elements of confederation and a two-states solution.”
