AKEL on the Turkish Defence Minister’s threatening statements

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

If Turkey wants dialogue then it would have chosen the path of international law and not provocative actions

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 26th June 2020, Nicosia

The threatening statements made by the Turkish Defence Minister against Cyprus constitute a new provocative act on the part of the Turkish government.

If Turkey wants dialogue, as the Turkish Minister declares, then it would have chosen the path of international law and not provocative actions, the illegal drilling denounced by the international community, the attempt to create fait accompli on the ground, the aggressiveness demonstrated against Cyprus, Greece, but also against the peoples of the region.

International law and the law of the sea can provide solutions to pending issues in the Eastern Mediterranean.
