AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou denounces shameful Nazi salute in the European Parliament by a far-right MEP

 

The European Parliament by equating fascism with communism creates a fertile ground for this kind of behaviour

An embarrassing and unacceptable incident took place in the European Parliament on Wednesday 16 February as a Bulgarian far-right MEP gave a Nazi salute after speaking in the plenary.

AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou, he stressed in the strongest possible terms that this is an unacceptable action that provokes only shame.

G.Georgiou went on to add the following speaking to ‘Dialogos’ portal: “This is a reprehensible and shameful incident which took place in the European Parliament. The European Parliament – which is trying to equate fascism with communism and by doing so is creating a fertile ground for this kind of behaviour – is also responsible.

We denounce these actions in the strongest possible terms as they reinforce the trends observed in several EU countries with the rise of extreme right-wing and fascist views. The European Parliament and the EU in general are called upon to rise to the occasion and approach the historical truth with honesty. Europe must not pay the cost of such Nazi and neo-fascist attitudes. Such attitudes are a disgrace.”

The far-right MEP provocatively called his action a…’simple greeting’.
