AKEL meeting with the new leadership of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP)

19 April 2022, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

A meeting took place today between an AKEL delegation, headed by the General Secretary of the C.C. of the Party Stefanos Stefanou, and the new President of the Turkish Cypriot Communal Democracy Party (TDP), Mineh Atli, at the AKEL Central Committee offices.

During the meeting, both parties expressed their common conviction for the immediate resumption of the negotiations based on the agreed basis for a solution (of the Cyprus problem), from the point where they had remained at Crans Montana. In addition, the two parties agreed that any views that depart from the content of what has been agreed so far will lead to the further consolidation of the partitionist status quo.

The two parties also expressed their readiness to continue and strengthen their bilateral relations and activities, both on issues related to the Cyprus problem and more broadly on issues regarding rapprochement.

Furthermore, information was also exchanged on the current mobilisations of the Turkish Cypriots, as well as on issues related to the Cyprus problem and the 2023 presidential elections.
