AKEL C.C. Press Office, 9th June 2020, Nicosia
A delegation of the AKEL Larnaca District Party Committee, headed by AKEL Parliamentary Representative Giorgos Loucaides, paid a visit today to the Larnaca General Hospital and the Old Larnaca Hospital, as part of its long-standing public interest and frequent visits to public hospitals. The delegation also included AKEL Larnaca District Secretary Chrystalla Antoniou, AKEL MP Evanthia Savva and AKEL Larnaca Organizational Secretary Christos Kones.
During the visit to the General Hospital of Larnaca, the conclusion was made that there is still a need to hire another cardiologist, for the smooth functioning of the Cardiology Clinic and the smooth service of patients, while a large number of cleaners need to be hired to cover needs, which have increased significantly since the operation of the new wing of the Hospital.
The AKEL delegation subsequently visited the Health Centre housed at the Old Larnaca Hospital, where it had the opportunity to discuss with the Hospital’s Board about the problems being identified, especially with regards the poor condition of the building, which needs to be immediately and substantially upgraded. Among other things, the AKEL delegation was briefed about the need to replace the outdated telephone system, as well as the need to further strengthen community care services, through the recruitment of three more nurses.
In conclusion, it has once again been established that the operation of the state health services OKYPY so far, instead of creating the conditions for flexibility in decision-making, has created an excessive bureaucracy and rigidity with regards the structure and operation of the public health system.
AKEL will take all the necessary actions towards the Ministry of Health and OKYPY on all the above issues
