4th March 2018 “Dialogos”
Greece is our main pillar of support in the effort we are making for the liberation and reunification of Cyprus, AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou said this evening.
In statements at Larnaca Airport before departing for Athens where he will have contacts, Mr. Kyprianou said that the visit was taking place “in an effort to be briefed by the Greek political leadership, above all the Greek Prime Minister and the entire political leadership about what their own information is regarding the Cyprus problem and how they perceive its further course”.
He added that, “at the same time, we will also convey our own analyzes, express our own views on how we think we should move forward so as to ensure that the negotiations are resumed as soon as possible with a view to finding a solution that should be based on the agreed framework and the long-standing decisions of the National Council”.
Greece, Mr. Kyprianou continued, “is our main pillar of support in the effort we are making to liberate and reunite Cyprus and it is of paramount importance that we have this systematic exchange of views with them.”
The General Secretary of AKEL also said that “besides this initiative, as AKEL we have arranged some meetings with Turkish Cypriot political parties. We will continue the effort to consult with them, and we will subsequently see what other initiatives we will take to contribute to the effort for the resumption of substantive negotiations on the Cyprus problem “.
