AKEL expects from Akinci that he will respect Christofias-Talat convergence

The Turkish Cypriot leader Mr. Akinci, in an interview he gave today to the daily “Fileleftheros” newspaper, replied, among other things, also to the issue of guaranteed majorities of population and land in a given federated unit. What Mr. Akinci referred to in his interview is provoking confusion. On the one hand, he refers to the respect of Cypriot and European citizens’ right of settlement and acquiring property. On the other hand however he insists on making references that question it.
AKEL expects from the Turkish Cypriot leader that he will respect the relevant Christofias-Talat convergence. This convergence foresees the full protection of the right of movement, settlement and acquisition of property. At the same time it foresees that voting rights, from one percentage and above to be agreed, will be exercised on a communal rather than on a territorial basis, so as to exclude the possibility of the Greek Cypriots being in a position to control and administrate the Turkish Cypriot federated unit as well.
