AKEL denounces nationalist slogans from DISY’s Youth organizations

In yesterday’s school pupils and student meetings held to denounce the declaration of the illegal pseudo-state organized by the School Pupil and Student’s Movement, the youth of the governing DISY party once again indulged in a frenzy of nationalist sloganeering. We call on the leadership of DISY, but also on the outgoing President of the Republic, to take a stand themselves on all that is unacceptable which their youth organization continues to cultivate. Do they agree with slogans such as “Turks, You Will Die on Greek Land” and “Turks- Mongols – Murderers” which the student “PROTOPRIA” and school pupil “MAKI” organizations shouted?
What took place yesterday does not come as a shock. It is the natural result of the ongoing misleading double-talk policy pursued by DISY and Nicos Anastasiades on the Cyprus problem. It is the natural result of their efforts to simultaneously pursue two completely different policies and satisfy their extreme-right audience.
Nicos Anastasiades must at long last understand that he cannot pick and choose depending on expediencies and seek to pursue policies which are mutually incompatible yet still claim otherwise.
He may think that with nationalism and chauvinism he will win the presidential election, but he cannot reunite Cyprus at the same time.
