AKEL congratulates Mehmet Ali Talat on his election as leader of CTP

The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou, today communicated via telephone with Mehmet Ali Talat, whom he congratulated on his election to the leadership of the Turkish Republican Party (CTP). In addition, the General Secretary of AKEL sent the following congratulatory letter to Mr. Talat:
“I congratulate you warmly on your election to the leadership of the Turkish Republican Party.
The Cyprus problem is at a critical juncture. Our people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, are looking forward to the reunification of the country and to peace. We hope its expectations will be realized at the negotiating table.
In this procedure, AKEL and CTP as the big progressive and peace-loving forces of the country can contribute a lot. As AKEL, we are ready to dedicate all our forces in the common struggle for the solution of the Cyprus problem. With CTP we are united by common historical bonds for peace in our country. We are ready to renew and strengthen these bonds even more today in order to build together the perspective of our people. “
