AKEL backs struggle of Turkish Cypriot activists for freedom of expression

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 7th May 2015, Nicosia

20150507 Meeting with Koray and CinelAKEL held a meeting today with Turkish Cypriot activists Cinel Senem Husseyin and Koray Basdogrultmaci on their campaign against the unjust persecution by the occupation authorities for flying the flag of the Republic of Cyprus in the occupied areas. The AKEL delegation consisted of Christos Christofides, Head of Rapprochement Office of AKEL and Elias Demetriou, member of the AKEL Rapprochement Office.

The two Turkish Cypriots are being persecuted by the authorities of the pseudo-state since 2011 for flying the Cyprus flag outside their shop in occupied Famagusta.

Since then they have been waging a campaign both within and outside Cyprus for the vindication of their struggle to defend their inalienable right to freedom of expression.

AKEL on its part expressed its solidarity with the Turkish Cypriot activists. At the same time, the need to resolve the Cyprus problem through the liberation and reunification of our homeland was agreed.

At the same time, AKEL calls on Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots to support the struggle of both the Turkish Cypriot activists as a struggle for the protection of freedom of expression.
