Cyprus is going through critical moments today
Statement by Neoklis Sylikiotis, AKEL Political Bureau member replies to the Government Spokesperson

The Government Spokesman, in line with the Anastasiades-DISY government’s familiar tactics, resorts in a selective and erroneous way to the past in an effort to avoid the essence of AKEL’s positions. Instead of the government ruling forces realizing the dramatic situation in which the Cyprus problem has been led to due to President Anastasiades’ regressions and transformations, they are once again attacking those who force them to face up to their responsibilities. Today Cyprus, four years after the collapse of the Crans Montana conference, is going through critical moments.
AKEL today too, through its General Secretary, reiterated that the only way we will get to meaningful negotiations and confront Turkey’s partitionist plans in an effective way is to support with consistency the solution of Bi-Zonal Bicommunal Federation with political equality, as set out by the relevant resolutions of the United Nations.
At the same time, the Greek Cypriot side must reaffirm without any hesitation the Guterres Framework, all the convergences that have been achieved so far and submit bridging proposals on the outstanding issues, as well as making use of the hydrocarbons in the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone to act as an incentive for a solution to the Cyprus problem.
These positions are all included in the proposal which AKEL had submitted to the President of the Republic last December.
