AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou met with the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov last week in Brussels

Due to the participation of AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou in the Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) of the European Parliament, the latest developments surrounding the Cyprus problems, the energy issue, Turkey’s geopolitical role in the wider region, as well as Cyprus’ concerns with regards the dangerousness of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant were the main subjects of the meeting with the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov.
Furthermore, there was an extensive review of the latest political developments in Syria, and in particular in Idlib, and how these developments may evolve after today’s summit meeting between the Russian Federation, Iran and Turkey in Ankara.
In addition, the latest developments in relation to EU – Russia relations were also reviewed and the need to upgrade these relations that will be to the benefit everyone.
In conclusion, the Ambassador reaffirmed the Russian Federation’s support for whatever solution the Cypriot people favour.
Both AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou and the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the EU Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov expressed the desire to continue their contacts.
