AKEL ON PSEUDO-STATE PROCLAMATION ANNIVERSARY

Statement by Georgios Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the illegal proclamation of the pseudo-state, AKEL condemns once again in the strongest way the Turkish invasion, on-going occupation and colonization of the occupied areas. We condemn the pseudo-state and all the occupational fait accomplis. We denounce the Turkish intransigence and insistence on partitionist solutions.

We demand that the international community and the European Union exert their influence and exert pressure on Turkey to finally comply with relevant United Nations resolutions on Cyprus.

Today, when efforts to resume talks are underway, we emphasize that the dialogue should be conducted on the basis of a united single state, with a single sovereignty, a single international personality and a single citizenship. The solution must provide for bi-communal, bi-zonal federation with political equality as set out by UN resolutions. The solution must free Cyprus from the occupation and colonization of the occupied areas, reunite the country, the people and the economy and restore the human rights of all Cypriots.

The provocative and unacceptable statements made by Turkish and Turkish Cypriot officials do not bode well for any positive developments.

The gravity of the situation demands the maximum collective handling of the Cyprus problem.

Our goal remains the liberation and reunification of Cyprus. Partition is not, and cannot be an option. AKEL categorically rejects any approach that refers whether directly or indirectly to any partitionist choices.

AKEL calls on our Turkish Cypriots compatriots to wage together the common struggle for the salvation of our common country. We call on the entire Cypriot people to rally its forces in a relentless front against nationalism and chauvinism and in a constant struggle for rapprochement.

On the anniversary of the proclamation of the pseudo-state AKEL is organizing an anti-occupation political rally on Monday 18th November 2013 at the checkpoint “Orpheus” in Nicosia., at 7.15 pm The main speaker at the event will be Andros Kyprianou, General Secretary the Central Committee of AKEL.
