Young graduates in Cyprus have the lowest percentage in getting work across the EU

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 12th April 2016, Nicosia

anergia econA European Commission working document which was circulated last week, records yet another tragic first for our country on what we consider as the most precious asset we have as a society, namely the new generation. Young graduates in Cyprus, despite their high academic qualifications, have the lowest percentage rates of students managing to get work as soon as they leave university or college in the European Union.

The overall picture is even more tragic, since one must also include the very high unemployment rate among young people, the very high percentage of long-term unemployment, the net migration of 30,000 of our fellow citizens – primarily young people – registered over the past two years, but also the hunger wages tens of thousands of poor working people receive, many of whom are also young people.

Other than that, the Anastasiades-DISY party Government believes that everything is progressing wonderfully and just fine part of a “success story” that at the end of the day only it and the plutocracy feel. Indeed, because they consider the policy they are implementing as completely successful, they are calling on citizens to vote for them so that they will vigorously continue the economic “miracle” of the last three years – the “miracle” of the impoverishment of our people, the disintegration of the middle strata and the transformation of Cyprus into the most unequal society in Europe, after the Baltic countries.
