Withdraw the decision for the NHS’ financial strangulation

- Withdraw the decision for the NHS’ financial strangulation
- We should help the NHS stand on its feet, not kill it

The failure of the Minister of Finance to substantiate the scaremongering, which began several months ago, regarding the viability of the National Health Scheme (NHS), has led him to approve unprecedented unilateral decisions to financially strangle the NHS.
The decision of the Minister of Finance to unilaterally cut €103 million from the National Health Scheme, with the aim of increasing these cuts to €150 million, while a dialogue is underway between the Minister of Health and the Health Insurance Organisation on the dispute that has arisen between them, can only be considered as a hostile action against the NHS itself, which must be immediately revoked.
Unfortunately, this action is part of a broader plan to create a prevailing atmosphere against the health system, which will enable, depending on the outcome of the forthcoming presidential elections, the implementation of the hidden goal of the NHS’ well-known opponents to completely reverse its structure and philosophy.
We warn these forces and circles that they will not succeed this time either, since they will again find the whole of society opposing them.
The overwhelming majority of our fellow citizens understand that the NHS is still in its infancy and what is needed is we should help the NHS stand on its feet, and not kill it, as its sworn enemies are seeking to do.
For that reason, AKEL will continue to be at the forefront in shielding the National Health Scheme, both against its well-known fierce opponents and to confront the existing problems and challenges that it naturally faces in its initial steps.
