We as victims of invasion, occupation and colonization cannot but stand in solidarity with the peoples struggling against occupation

The General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, went to the Palestinian Embassy today to sign the book of condolences in memory of the Palestinians following the attack on a hospital in Gaza.

“We came here to sign the book of condolences for the loss of so many civilians, mainly mothers and children, but also elderly people, due to the shelling taking place in the region of the Gaza Strip,” said Stefanos Stefanou.

The General Secretary of AKEL stressed that “the Palestinian people are long-suffering and they are suffering yet another tragedy. This fact underlines that the international community must at long last act to end the bloodshed, to terminate Israel’s occupation and to implement the resolutions of the United Nations on the Middle East. Only in this way,” S.Stefanou pointed out, “will an end finally be put to this situation that has tormented an entire people for decades and peace and cooperation will prevail for the peoples of the region.”

Finally, the General Secretary of AKEL noted that “we, the Cypriot people, victims too of invasion, occupation and colonisation cannot but stand in solidarity with those peoples who are fighting against the occupation so that international law and above all international humanitarian law prevails”.
