We wait alternative proposals from those that promote negativism on the Cyprus Problem

Statement by Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 20th July 2015, Nicosia

cpr buffer zoneThe President of the Democratic Party DIKO Nicholas Papadopoulos chose the eve of the black anniversary of the Turkish invasion to repeat himself by demonstrating his well-known negativism that characterizes his positions on the Cyprus problem, accompanied by significant doses of alarmism, distortions and petty-party considerations and expediences.

The President of the Democratic Party as a cohort of Averof Neophytou of the DISY party, the Anastasiades government and the Troika in their efforts to impose the catastrophic Memoranda policies at the expense of our people should be very careful when trying to play games serving petty-party considerations, because these quite simply turn back against him.

With regards the substance of the Cyprus problem, we are still waiting to hear from Mr. Papadopoulos, besides his negativism, what he himself actually proposes, especially about how we will fulfil his proposals in as much as the pressing issue is not half but a Greek Cyprus.

We will we add not even bother to comment on the false references to guaranteed majorities and regarding the users of Greek Cypriot or Turkish Cypriot properties.

Concerning he question of the rotating Presidency, we refer Mr. Nicholas Papadopoulos to its acceptance by the former Presidents of the Republic Glafcos Clerides and Tassos Papadopoulos, for twenty years now, recalling the significant improvements achieved by Demetris Christofias with cross voting, a provision that even improved the Zurich agreements.

Regarding the matter of foreign judges, an issue that exclusively concerns the judiciary, we also expect to hear a better proposal from Mr. Nicholas Papadopoulos on the mechanism for solving deadlocks on the few on the one hand but serious issues where there will be a tie in community voting. Unless Mr. Papadopoulos believes that on all issues without exception the Greek Cypriots will decide on their own, thus completely abolishing the bi-communalism that is applicable today in the Cypriot state and tghus transforming the Turkish Cypriots into a minority.
