US government’s measures are dangerous and racist

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 30th January 2017, Nicosia

trumb usa intThe US presidential decree as a result of which the entry  to the US of citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries is prohibited and the decision to suspend the program to host refugees for four months reveals the extremely dangerous and xenophobic attitudes of the new US President.

Indeed the very fact that the US government is targeting the citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, but excludes Saudi Arabia, from which most of the perpetrators of the attacks on 11th September came from, shows that the justifications of “fighting terrorism” are blatant hypocrisy. These measures bring the opposite results of what they declare. These measures are fomenting Islamophobia and racism on the part of the US government and awaken traumatic for humanity memories of the darkest periods of history. However, it should be recalled that the ground for policies of this philosophy was prepared with the implementation of repressive “anti-terrorist” measures that were enforced by all US governments, but also by the EU through the construction of “fortress- Europe”.

AKEL welcomes the mass rallies and spontaneous demonstrations that have taken place in many international US airports against the measures of the country’s Government and expresses its solidarity with the US anti-racist movement.
