US and EU intervention in Ukraine leads to destruction

AKEL expresses its deep concern about developments in Ukraine. The intervention of the US and European Union lead, as in other countries, to destruction. The same happened in Yugoslavia, Serbia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya. Their interventions represented the cause, but also the main reason for the intense civil confrontation. The policy of divide and rule, the caressing of extreme-right and fascist forces is completely deplorable. The threat of partition is reviving as never before. Already, the far-right circles who govern are prohibiting and banning the Communist Party of Ukraine and the Party of Regions and driving them underground, whereas previously the fascist forces were allowed to burn down the building of the Communist Party of Ukraine.

NATO’s plans for establishing a permanent presence of its increased military forces, which were recently deployed in the area, are proving yet again that what they are really targeting is the country’s wealth and geostrategic importance, the war for the energy routes and not the protection of the Ukrainian people, democracy and its prosperity.

AKEL believes that the initiative of the Russian Federation to appeal to the protesters in the Southeast of the country to postpone the referendum and at the same time for Kiev to stop its military operations, are in the right direction and offers a hope for dialogue.
