Turkishcypriot Football Federation decides to join Cyprus Football Federation

AKEL welcomes the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation’s decision on the basis of which the procedures for its application to become a member of the Cyprus Football Federation will begin. This decision must be considered as very important, taking into account the very difficult conditions in which the Turkish Cypriot community lives and is active.

The specific intention of Turkish Cypriot football figures can contribute towards strengthening the cooperation between the two communities. In the difficult circumstances in which our people live, it can help to boost the prospects for our country’s reunification.

AKEL stresses that this positive development must not lead to any hasty and incorrect conclusions in relation to the overall solution of the Cyprus problem. The only feasible way to end the occupation and achieve the reunification of our country and people is the bi-zonal, bi-communal Federation, that will ensure the political equality of the two communities, as defined by the relevant United Nations resolutions and that will guarantee a single sovereignty, a single international personality and a single citizenship.
