Turkish Foreign Minister’s statements do not permit optimism towards an agreed solution to the Cyprus Problem

Statement of Georgos Loucaides, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 18th May 2014, Nicosia

Famagusta-ghost-town1Turkey must implement the United Nations resolutions concerning the enclosed city of Famagusta which provide for the return of the city’s inhabitants to their homes and properties.

Moreover, Turkey must convert its verbal declarations about a desire to see a solution of the Cyprus problem and indeed immediately, with actions and deeds, since a possible return of Varosha will represent a practical example that could function as a catalyst for the restoration of trust and for a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem.

The statements by the Turkish Foreign Minister, within the context of his illegal visit to the occupied areas, once again do not permit optimism with regards the prospect of the return of Famagusta, but unfortunately neither for the achievement of an agreed solution to the Cyprus problem.
