The truce must evolve into a long-term and just solution of the Palestinian Problem
AKEL salutes the achievement of a long-term truce that has been agreed in Cairo of Egypt, between Israel and the Palestinian leadership. The war that begun by the attacks of the Israeli army, led behind it 2,200 dead and thousands injured and homeless, when according to the UN the three quarters of the Palestinian dead people are civilians. The lessons for the future are many. The life in Gaza, has almost totally been flatten and there is an urgent need for humanitarian aid and reconstruction of the ruined city.
The common future of the two peoples, can be reconstructed only through a solution that will provide the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of 1967, with Eastern Jerusalem as its capital, the lifting of the fait accompli created by the settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, a single state next to the state of Israel. AKEL announces that intents to host soon a regional meeting of political Parties of the region regarding the Palestinian Problem.
