The Solidarity Network is delivering 300 packages this year – AKEL and PEO demand social policy be implemented

These are festive days and the demonstration of practical social solidarity towards our distressed and poverty-stricken fellow citizens is imperative. Tens of thousands are suffering from poverty and galloping price hikes that are making life more difficult
The demonstration of solidarity is necessary and is a badge of honor for Cypriot society. The People’s Social Solidarity Network is doing an excellent job on this issue. For several years it has been carrying out this activity, helping hundreds of families in need of support during the festive period.
This situation is first and foremost proof of the inadequate social policy implemented by the state. At the same time, things are getting worse and worse because this government does not have a proper understanding of how a social welfare policy can adequately and satisfactorily meet the needs that exist, starting first of all by providing help to all those vulnerable groups of the population who are having great difficulty in making ends meet or don’t manage to do so.
We have a specific concept about how the social policy implemented by the state must be corrected and reformed. We are elaborating specific proposals on this issue. At the same time, we are also taking practical initiatives, as we have said, at the level of social solidarity.
I would like to thank once again the People’s Social Solidarity Network and congratulate it on its activity. We have made a humble contribution as a Party to help the Network’s activity. At the same time, I would like to thank all our fellow citizens who have responded with great willingness to the appeal issued by the People’s Social Solidarity Network to offer products so that we could prepare these packages.
Congratulations to Marina Koukou for the Network’s work. Congratulations to all the volunteers who participated in this very important activity expressing concrete social solidarity.
