The sinister case of the black spy van cannot be closed like this

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Giorgos Koukoumas

16 November 2021, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The Attorney General has decided to acquit the Israeli Tal Dillian and two other persons of charges in the spy van case. In effect, the closure of the case is being planned. The questions raised by AKEL and society remain unanswered and the government cannot hide behind its legal adviser.

When such a mechanism has been operating for years in our country, engaging in surveillance and illegally collecting data on thousands of citizens of our country, this sinister case cannot be closed in this way.

The activity of the black spy surveillance van concerns every citizen of the country.

It concerns the rule of law and our country’s national security.

It concerns democracy and human rights in our country.

This case demands a real and full investigation to be carried out.
