The ruling EU circles are promoting the same failed recipes

The Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament approved the Report on the Troika’s role in the Eurozone.

The new version of the text has nothing to do with the original Report. After compromise amendments tabled by the big political groups, namely of the Right EPP, the Social democrats SD and the Liberals ALDE all the paragraphs of the text have been changed, turning it into a vague text referring to possible errors and shortcomings committed by the Troika. Even objective references of the Report regarding the social impact of the “adjustment” programmes were deleted as a result of the agreement reached between the ruling circles. Amendments submitted by the Political Group of the European United Left-Nordic Green Left that pointed out the blackmails and which promoted genuine solidarity were unfortunately rejected.

The Report ignored the Troika’s violent character and way of operating, namely of the European Central Bank, the European Commission and the IMF. The attack waged against Cyprus, labour rights, social policy, SMEs through the Memorandum concluded with the Troika is ignored.

A provision for the establishment of a European Monetary Fund confirms that the problem of the EU ruling circles is not the content of the policies against the people and their interests, but rather the antagonisms between the EU and the IMF and the title of the mechanisms imposing the devastating for the peoples solutions.

AKEL denounces this political agreement that reproduces with a different name the same failed neoliberal recipes of the European Union; recipes and policies which exacerbate the capitalist crisis. The forces consenting with their decisions to the continuation and deepening of policies against the people and their interests must be judged by the people.
