The parties DISY, DIKO, EDEK and DHPA prevented the Parliament from taking a position in favour of the protection of Akamas

14 July 2022, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The parties DISY, DIKO, EDEK and DIPA today prevented Parliament from debating a resolution on the protection of Akamas, in view of the revised Local Plan that will have devastating consequences on this unique habitat of our island. The resolution was tabled jointly by AKEL and the Ecologists with the aim of sending a strong message from the Parliament itself to the government and big business interests to leave Akamas out of their machinations. However, the majority formed by these parties prevented the debate on the resolution. Obviously, they oppose the substance and content of the Resolution and want the anti-environmental planning to continue unhindered.

It is characteristic that it is the parties aligned with the candidacies of Averof Neophytou and Nikos Christodoulides that prevented the Parliament from taking a position in favour of the protection of Akamas. As expected, the two DISY candidates are following the DISY policy on Akamas which is secretly planning the cementing of the peninsula. Besides, the government of Averof Neophytou and N. Christodoulides is responsible for huge ecological crimes throughout the 9 years of their administration. They are clearly targeting Akamas.
