The Netanyahu government is a threat to the whole region and humanity

2 April 2024, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The Israeli Netanyahu government is not only murdering the Palestinian people, but also represents a danger to all the states and peoples in our region, as well as a threat to world peace and security. In the midst of the genocide being committed against the Palestinian people, the escalation of the Israeli attacks launched on Syrian soil, this time by striking the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, the danger is looming of other states becoming involved in the region and of these actions leading to a regional conflict and a generalised conflagration.

At the same time, the Israeli army is committing one crime after another in Gaza. Following the atrocities at Al-Sifa hospital, the Israeli armed forces murdered members of the non-governmental organisation World Central Kitchen (WCK), which distributes humanitarian aid arriving by sea, via Cyprus, in the Gaza Strip. This new Israeli atrocity is a nightmare for the modern world. The fact that the Christodoulides government – which has made ‘Amalthea’ its flagship – doesn’t even now denounce Israel’s murderous actions, which are even directed against humanitarian aid, exposing it in multiple ways.

AKEL reiterates that humanity cannot remain passive in the face of Israel’s genocide and crimes, with tens of thousands of civilians, women and children as its victims. The international community must demand in practice Israel’s compliance with the Resolution adopted by the Security Council of the UN and the interim decision of the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

As for the European Union, today it should have already imposed sanctions, an arms embargo on Israel and should have already suspended the Association Agreement with Israel, instead of standing by the Netanyahu government.
