The Justice Minster should investigate incidents and not indulge in statements projecting xenophobia

Citizen’s right to mobilize is non-negotiable and must be fully respected

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 30TH October 2020, Nicosia

The authorities have a responsibility to investigate and bring to justice the perpetrators of the heinous and reprehensible incidents that took place in Limassol. We point out that the Minister of Justice has this responsibility and not to indulge in statements that exude xenophobia and indiscriminately stigmatize social groups. The State as a whole has a responsibility to look at the root causes and motives behind such phenomena.

In any case, the right of citizens to mobilize is non-negotiable and must be fully respected. This also applies to the citizens who took part in the mobilization the day before yesterday, regardless of the fact that, in our view, just social demands, such as the stamping out of corruption, were mixed with irrational and unscientific views on various issues.
