The government is leaving families and SME’s unprotected with the risk of losing their homes

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 4th December 2020, Nicosia

The government immediately rushes to promote and enforce every bill that serves the interests of the banks. At the same time the government does everything humanly possible to repeal every legislation that protects socially those in need.

Yesterday we learnt that President Anastasiades proceeded to refer the law that protects socially vulnerable tenants from evictions during the period of the pandemic to the Supreme Court. In other words, the Anastasiades-DISY government is not only provocatively indifferent to evictions, foreclosures and the issue of rents that are strangling households and small businesses, but it is openly trying to repeal any social legislation passed by Parliament.

The government chooses to leave both families and small and medium sized enterprises unprotected from the risk of literally losing their homes.
