The government hasn’t taken additional measures to support thousands of workers, self-employed people and SME’s

Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou

On the need to take additional support measures

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 14th December 2020, Nicosia

AKEL addresses the government for the umpteenth time and calls on it to be understand the situation experienced by thousands of working people, the self-employed and small and medium enterprises of the country.

The government’s recent measures add to the already dramatic situation in the sphere of cultural activity, retail trade and catering. Nevertheless, the government has not taken any additional measures to provide support for the thousands of working people, self-employed people and small businesses who have been left with virtually no income or whose incomes have dropped dramatically.

AKEL calls on the government to:

  1. Immediately implement a scheme to provide support for those being harmed by the new measures.
  2. Provide a solution to the issue of rents and bank installments.
  3. Stop preventing the freezing of evictions and contributes towards the continuation of the suspension of foreclosures.
