The findings on ‘Videogate’ are a farce and a travesty

AKEL calls for parliamentary scrutiny and full transparency

22 July 2026, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

The attempt to whitewash the Christodoulides government over the video of shame and entanglement through the investigator’s farcical findings constitutes a blatant mockery of the public. The public saw and heard with their very own eyes and ears Mr Christodoulides’ associates taking centre stage in discussions about illicit political funds and entanglement with Cypriot and foreign business magnates. However, the President’s Office and the investigator appointed by the Attorney General’s Office see no criminal, moral or political responsibility.

AKEL makes it clear that this mockery will not be allowed to go unchallenged.

In a letter from the Parliamentary Representative of AKEL – Left – Social Alliance, Giorgos Loucaides, to the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Institutions, Values and the Commissioner for Administration, Dimitris Dimitriou, AKEL requests that the Chair call for the full report to be made available to the members of the Committee, and that an extraordinary meeting of the Committee be convened immediately, so that the announcement and the findings of the independent criminal investigator may be examined on the Committee’s own initiative. The communication of the findings is an essential prerequisite for the exercise of effective and substantive parliamentary scrutiny of the matter, which will promote transparency and accountability.
