The feast resumes with the recruitment of consultants at the Presidential Office
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Giorgos Koukoumas
12 Sep 2023, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
The feast starts again. This sums up the government’s new moves to recruit more advisers/consultants to the Presidency in a practice that is nothing but an exact copy of the Anastasiades government.
More specifically, a team of 12 advisers is being created in the Presidential Palace to oversee the work Ministers, which from an institutional aspect is problematic, but also raises the question of whether they will subsequently want another 12 to oversee the supervisors. At the same time, the government is asking for the allocation of 250,000 euros for other advisers at the Presidential Palace who have already been seconded from the public and wider public sector, while in a dangerous but unprecedented novel idea in the annals of the state, it is asking for overtime to be paid for government officials.
All this is unfolding at a time when the government refuses to take measures to tackle the poverty that is crushing Cypriot society, while the measures that were in place have been terminated.
The Christodoulides government should change its priorities and put aside practices and mentalities that are ferociously provoking society.
