The Christodoulides government and the majority of the Parliament must at long last stop pretending to be Netanyahu’s advocates

The State of Israel must immediately comply with yesterday’s UN Security Council resolution, which calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The ongoing genocide, war crimes being committed and the deliberate starvation that Israel has been imposing on the population of Gaza for almost six months – with the backing of the USA and the leadership of the European Union – is a disgrace to human civilisation and must end immediately.
The Christodoulides government and the majority in the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus must at long last stop playing the role of Netanyahu’s advocates and articulate their condemnation of the Israeli brutality against the Palestinian people and demand Israel’s compliance with the Resolution of the UN Security Council.
AKEL is today submitting a Draft Resolution on the ongoing genocide in Gaza in the House of Representatives, requesting that it be voted on in the upcoming plenary session of the House ahead of the 30th of March, World Palestinian Land Day. The draft resolution calls for an immediate, permanent and unconditional ceasefire, an end to the blockade of the Gaza Strip, and free and unimpeded humanitarian access from all crossing points, underlining the irreplaceable role of UNRWA in this regard.
In addition, in a letter from the Parliamentary Representative of AKEL addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, she is called upon to proceed with the symbolic lighting of the Parliament building with the Palestinian flag.
Finally, AKEL calls for a mass participation in the protest being organised by the Cyprus Peace Council (PCP) this Friday, 29 March at 17:30 in Freedom Square demanding an end to the ongoing genocide, occupation and colonisation being committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, to demonstrate our solidarity with the struggle for an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
