Cyprus News Agency CNA, 20th January 2017

archbishop chrisostomosThe Archbishop’s statements surrounding the Cyprus problem are promoting the idea of a compromise with the occupation, the Press Spokesperson of the C.C. of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou stated.

In his statements in Parliament, Mr. Stefanou said that, “statements of this kind promote the idea of a compromise with the occupation, the presence of the Turkish occupation troops and settlers. They promote the concept of a compromise with the policy being pursued by Turkey for the incorporation or/and annexation of the occupied territories.”

“We as AKEL will never compromise with the occupation. We will never compromise with the de facto partition. That is why we will continue to struggle to achieve a solution of the Cyprus problem that will liberate and reunite the country and people within the framework of a bizonal, bicommunal federation”, he said.

He added that the de facto situation is not a fixed, but a volatile situation which is continuously creating dangers for our people and homeland.

“We cannot live with this situation. That’s why we must put an end to this situation by solving the Cyprus problem and we must continue the struggle to achieve it.”
