The Anastasiades-DISY government bears immense responsibilities because Cyprus today depends on a monopoly slaughterhouse Cypra
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 27th November 2020, Nicosia
The scandal surrounding the Cypra slaughterhouse case did not end with yesterday’s debate in the Parliamentary Audit Committee. Quite the opposite, new issues have been added to the numerous others that have already been brought to light.
There are many responsibilities. First of all, political responsibilities. The Anastasiades-DISY government bears immense responsibilities because Cyprus today depends on a single monopoly slaughterhouse, Cypra. It is responsible, because the facilities in the Kofinou slaughterhouse were left to decay over time and in fact that property worth many millions of euros has been looted because they were left unattended. It is responsible for decisions and delays in their execution, which permitted a scandalously favourable treatment towards the owner of the Cypra slaughterhouse.
The government is also responsible for the malfunction, chaos, misunderstanding and the tug-of-war of accusations being fired between government agencies. The correct functioning of the state is primarily the responsibility of the given government.
The scandal also includes issues relating to potential conflict of interests, interwoven interests and corruption that need to be investigated.
AKEL will continue to investigate the scandal and demand that responsibilities must be taken on.
