The AKEL ballot paper for the European elections
27 January 2024, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia
The AKEL ballot for the elections to elect the 6 Members of the European Parliament for Cyprus was decided today by the Central Committee of AKEL. AKEL enters the battle of the European elections with positions and proposals on all major and small European issues and with a strong ballot paper with six candidates ready to work and fight for the visions, values and policies that the people of Cyprus and the peoples of Europe need.
The ballot consists of three men and three women and combines political figures from AKEL and personalities from the wider progressive spectrum of Cyprus, people with knowledge and experience, with a background in public affairs and with their own imprint on the social and political life of Cyprus. At the same time, we continue the historic step we took in 2019 with the inclusion of a Turkish Cypriot on our European ballot, because AKEL is the Party of all Cypriots, the principal force of reunification and rapprochement.
The candidates of AKEL are the following:
- Giorgos Georgiou, philologist, MEP, 60 years old
- Anna Theologou, economist, former MP, 38 years old
- Stavri Kalopsidiotou, lawyer, international law expert, Head of the Human Rights Sector of AKEL, 43 years old
- Andros Karagiannis, English and German language philologist, Mayor of Deryneia, 50 years old
