Statement by the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou after the meeting with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cyprus Stanislav Osadchiy

25 November 2021, AKEL C.C. Press Office, Nicosia

I had a meeting today with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Cyprus Mr. Stanislav Osadchiy. Such meetings, especially with Ambassadors of important states such as Russia, which is also a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, are extremely important.

We discussed the situation surrounding the Cyprus problem, what needs to be done in order to achieve the resumption of the negotiations from the point where they were interrupted at Crans-Montana, preserving all the body of work that has been done all these years and that exists in the agreed framework for the solution of the Cyprus problem, in the Resolutions and convergences that have been recorded.

As always, we agreed with the Russian Ambassador that the Cyprus problem must remain within the framework of the United Nations and that the solution to the Cyprus problem must be on the agreed basis of the solution and within the framework of the Resolutions of the United Nations.
