Society too doesn’t embrace the government’s “success story”

Statement by Charis Polycarpou, member of the C.C. of AKEL

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 15th December 2016, Nicosia

Recession econ -Prepper-CentralAlthough economic activity is showing signs of improvement lately, social conditions have deteriorated considerably over the last four years in Cyprus.

This is what research carried out by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) shows, given that nine in ten households state that they haven’t seen an improvement in their economic situation over the last four years, despite the economy’s improvement.

Cypriot citizens are presented as reflective and dissatisfied with the situation in our country.

In addition, Cyprus ranks third in relation to wage inequality in the European Union, after Poland and Romania, since 10% of the low-paid earn 4.5 times less than 10% of best paid.

In the end besides AKEL, neither does Cypriot society embrace the government’s “success story”. Its now clear that government’s policy serves the privileged few to the detriment of the majority of the people.
