Government’s pre-election pledges and promises are worthless

Statement by Stefanos Stephanou, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 13th December 2016, Nicosia

dimotikes ekloges akelThe government’s stance and behavior obliges us to hope that elections are held more often. Whenever there are elections the Anastasiades – DISY party government opens its coffers, forgetting all about austerity policies and becoming generous.

In view of the municipal elections due to take place this Sunday 18th December, the government opened its coffers to DISY Mayors who are seeking their re-election so that they can do projects which they haven’t done for the last five years. Government leading officials are participating in the pre-election campaigns of DISY party candidates and Ministers are making promises to municipalities and local communities.

The people of course know that the pre-election pledges of the government and ruling forces are worthless. People remember about what issues and how many pledges they made during pre-election campaigns and what they do afterwards.

We call on citizens this Sunday to participate in the local government elections and send out the appropriate messages; to support the institution of local government, the local economy and its quality of life.

We call on citizens to vote for the candidates of AKEL-Left-New Forces and the candidate Mayors it is backing.
