Russian Foreign Minister visit a positive development

REUTERS/Yiannis KourtoglouAKEL considers the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, who we too welcome here in Cyprus, as a positive development.

The developments surrounding the Cyprus problem, the principled positions which the Russian Federation has always upheld and the support which the friendly country offers in the just assertions of the Cypriot people make the visit of Sergey Lavrov particularly important.

We expect that this visit will be utilized to further enhance the bilateral relations between our countries, as well to reconfirm and strengthen the positive role the Russian Federation is playing with regards the Cyprus problem, especially as a permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations.

Within precisely this framework we welcome all that the Foreign Minister of Russia stated in the interview he gave yesterday to the Cyprus News Agency, in which he reconfirmed the positions of principle the Russian Federation upholds on the Cyprus problem and the full support of the friendly country to the procedure underway for a solution of the Cyprus problem.
