Radical revision of EU policy on migration demanded
Statement of Marina Koukou, Head of the Office on Migration Policy of the C.C. of AKEL
AKEL C.C. Press Office, 20th April 2015, Nicosia
AKEL expresses its deep sorrow at the horrific tragedy and the drowning of hundreds of people in the Mediterranean waters.
This tragedy, like its predecessors, yet again brings to the fore even more strongly Europe’s policy on migration and of the developed world in general, demonstrating the deadlocks which the new world order is leading to.
AKEL demands, and will take initiatives and through its MEPs in the within the framework of the GUE/NGL group in the European parliament, to raise immediately on the EU agenda the need for a radical revision of its policy on migration, which should be based on the universal principles of humanism and the respect of the fundamental rights of every human being.
