Privatizations indicative of government’s neoliberal policy guiding it

Statement of Stefanos Stefanou, AKEL Political Bureau AKEL C.C.

The philosophy of the government and ruling circles who are seeking to sell off all those Semi-governmental organizations producing wealth is well known. They want to put this wealth and profit into the pockets of big private interests. During the presidential election campaign the current ruling forces were saying that they were against privatizations. This is what former DYSI President and current President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiades was saying with the well-known letter he sent just a few days before the elections to all the working people employed in the Semi-governmental organizations. After the elections the Finance Minister, his party, the government itself are saying that it’s a question of “reform” and philosophy.

Privatizations are a classic example, first of how the current rulers usurped the vote of the people and citizens with the many lies they said before the elections and secondly they are indicative of the neoliberal policy that guides them. This philosophy seeks to serve the interests of the few and privileged and of course it aims to rule the many and non-privileged who – according to the government – should pay the cost of the economic crisis.
