The Cyprus problem within the context of EU-Turkey relations, environmental and human rights issues, as well as the question of foreclosures and immigration, are among the priorities of AKEL’s re-elected MEP Giorgos Georgiou.
In a statement to CNA, after his official declaration on Tuesday morning at the Filoxenia Conference Centre, AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou, taking stock of the election result, said “the people have spoken. We respect the result. It may not be very satisfying in the sense that we have not elected a second MEP”.
Asked about what he intends to do from tomorrow, G.Georgiou said that “with whatever knowledge I have accumulated over the last five years, with the support of AKEL’s team in Brussels and here in Cyprus, on behalf of AKEL, I will try, by participating critical Parliamentary Committees, to fulfil my duties”.
More specifically, AKEL MEP G.Georgiou said that his main objective will be to promote the Cyprus problem, within the EU-Turkish framework, but also issues relating to the environment, human rights, foreclosures, immigration “as well as the scourge of the far right, which has unfortunately been advancing in Europe at the moment”.
