People must be wondering if they are living in the same world as the government rulers are living in

Statement by Stefanos Stefanou, AKEL C.C. Spokesperson

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 1st December 2017, Nicosia

During today’s speech by the Minister of Finance to the House of Representatives on the 2018 budget we didn’t hear anything that we didn’t expect to hear from the Minister.

With all we’ve heard, people must be wondering if they are living in the same world as the one the government rulers are living in. The Finance Minister has said several things about the economy, many of which aren’t so. He has not mentioned anything whatsoever about all that the middle strata, working people, pensioners on meagre pensions, the unemployed and the vulnerable groups of the population are going through. That is to say, the large section of the population that is experiencing a painful reality every day, wondering if people can make it through the month, wondering what the day after will bring.

The government rulers are living in their own fictitious world where there are no problems, no worries and no dissatisfaction. They leave people to experience the worry, frustration and the painful reality to their very bone.

With such an approach, the rulers confirm that they cannot change things for the better for the overwhelming majority of the people, given that they are satisfied with the inequality, poverty, unemployment, low wages and all that is distressing citizens.
