Only a new government that respects citizens and institutions can effectively tackle corruption
Statement by AKEL MP Aristos Damianou after the meeting of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee
3 November 2021
The Republic of Cyprus is not lacking in either laws or principles. In the hands of a government and a President with a self-evident institutional entanglement bordering on corruption, the establishment of yet another Authority tackle corruption will have no real impact.
It will simply be yet another alibi for the Anastasiades-Averof-DISY government, under whose watch good governance, institutions and the rule of law are being brutally undermined.
Only a new progressive government that respects itself, its citizens and its institutions can effectively stamp out corruption and entanglement/interwoven interests.
