On the occasion of the 91s birthday of the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, the General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Andros Kyprianou, sent the following letter:
Com. Mikis Theodorakis,
On the occasion of your birthday, the Central Committee of AKEL, the militants and members of our Party and myself personally, wish you wholeheartedly that you will always be in good health, strong and combatant.
The entire Greek people are celebrating with you through their struggles that would not have had the same vigor had your tremendous work not inspired them too.
Greece, Cyprus and Europe are going through difficult times. Imperialism’s onslaught all over the world is redrawing borders, shedding the blood of millions of innocent people, while more and more profits are being accumulated for the privileged few with the majority of the peoples being driven into misery.
Under such conditions, your history, struggles and work are a source of inspiration and struggle, a beacon and compass in the struggles of the peoples for the future.
On behalf of AKEL and the Cyprus people, we thank you for what you have created and all that you have offered to humanity. For us, you are not only the great composer, lyricist, political activist and thinker, but above all a great friend of Cyprus.
I wish you always good health and I hope that we will have the opportunity to meet in person soon.
