On the meeting of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of AKEL with the Ambassador of Kuwait

The General Secretary of the C.C. of AKEL Stefanos Stefanou had a complimentary meeting today with the Ambassador of Kuwait Mr. Waleed Ahmad Al-Kandari, who congratulated him on his election to the leadership of AKEL.

During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with regards the development of bilateral friendly relations between Cyprus and Kuwait and the importance of forging cooperation between all the states in the region for the benefit of peace and cooperation and for the prosperity of their peoples was stressed.  Stefanos Stefanou pointed out AKEL’s long-standing position that Cyprus must become a bridge of peace with all the peoples in the region and between the EU and the region.

The General Secretary of AKEL also briefed the Kuwaiti Ambassador on the situation surrounding the Cyprus problem. They also exchanged views on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East and the Gulf region. Furthermore, the General Secretary of AKEL and the Ambassador of Kuwait stressed the need for a peaceful solution to all problems through negotiations and on the basis of International Law and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations.
