On Akinci’s proposal for the convening of an informal conference
Statement by AKEL C.C. Spokesperson Stefanos Stefanou
AKEL welcomes the intention expressed for an acceptance of the proposal for the convening of an informal conference on the Crans Montana model. The aim of this conference must be the creation of the preconditions for a resumption of the talks from the point where they had remained at Crans Montana and on the basis of the Framework of the UN Secretary-General.
AKEL stresses that there should be a good preparation made and that President Anastasiades should enter this procedure with a genuine will to move things to the very end. That is to say, an agreement should be reached that will lead to a solution based on principles on the Cyprus problem, provided of course there is also response from the other side. In the event of a new failure, the situation will become extremely dangerous and difficult.
