Message of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) to the 23rd Congress
Message of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) to the 23rd Congress:
“Dear comrades,
On my personal behalf and on behalf of the Portuguese Communist Party, I fraternally greet the 23rd AKEL Congress and, through it, its militants, expressing the wish for the best successes in its proceedings, in favour of the development of the Cypriot workers’ people’s struggle in defence of their rights and for the achievement of a path of social progress, sovereignty and national independence and the reunification of their homeland.
On this occasion, I would also like to express the desire for the continuation and deepening of the bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite the PCP and AKEL, and which we value highly.
The exploitative and aggressive onslaught by imperialism, and particularly its expression in Europe, raises the need to strengthen cooperation between the communist parties and between these and other progressive forces that do not waver under anti-communist pressure – an objective for which the PCP and AKEL have contributed, whether in the framework of the process of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties, or in safeguarding and affirming the confederal character of the European United Left/Nordic Green Left Group – The Left in the European Parliament.
Wishing once again every success to your 23rd Congress and your struggle, we convey to you, dear comrades, our most fraternal and solidary greetings.»
Jerónimo de Sousa
General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party
